What if Darth Vader had been electrocuted and killed before he'd been able to throw Palpatine over the railing? Do you think there would've been a battle between him and Luke? And if so, who would've won?

Luke would win.

It'd be a good match. Luke would know there was no more good left in Palpatine, and he would try and kill him since he just killed his father. Palpatine might try and sway him, but I think in the end they would still fight when Palpatine found no hope.

Well really it dosn't matter. In the comic series "Crimson Empire" talks about clones of palpatine and the after ROTJ the empire still lasted for a long time.

Your thinking of Dark Empire -- but Crimson Empire still dealt with a post RotJ Empire.
